Google Chrome is the preferred browser for most users, as demonstrated by its clear dominance. However, this does not mean that there are many better alternatives even than Google’s solution, such as Vivaldi which had a 2023 with important changes.

At the beginning of the year, it was updated allowing YouTube to play in the background while version 6.1 arrived in June, capable of camouflaging itself as Edge to use Microsoft’s AI. Now, do it again to hug new features focused on security and privacy of its users.

Vivaldi wants to stand out in safety

Vivaldi Technologies, the company behind the aforementioned browser, has announced the deployment of version 6.5, to start the year on the right foot. As we read in the publication they made on the app’s official blog, it provides more security to the user, while adding more possibilities for those who use private mode (or incognito mode, as it is known in other browsers).

First, the security addition focuses on the synchronization of our history which arrives reinforced with the end to end encryption. Using this method – which other apps such as WhatsApp or Telegram already use to protect our chats – we can access the complete history regardless of the device we are using. It will be shared between our teams, as long as we use this alternative browser.

Until now, Vivaldi only synchronized websites and searches written in the address bar, but with this change, any site visited will appear on other devices. On the other hand, the option has been added to set a default search engine for private tabs.

This is something that will be familiar to us, since we already select our preferred search engine in any browser. However, the difference here is that we can establish a different one for Vivaldi’s private mode, the one that does not save the history and allows incognito searches.

As if that were not enough, we can add custom nicknames to search engines. In this way, when performing a search, we can use a specific search engine by adding a letter before the search term. An example: if we want to search for “Apps ProBox” in Bing (instead of Google, itself), we will write “B Apps ProBox” and Vivaldi will open the search with the Microsoft search engine.

In addition to these three new features, the changelog comes in a long list with updates to the Chromium base, fixes for bugs and performance improvements. You can download Vivaldi 6.5 from Google Play Store following the link we leave below.
