Although Google TV has long since taken the place of Android TV as the OS for set-top boxes and smart TVs powered by the solution developed by Big. G., some evidence tells us that the previous version is more alive than ever.
This is evident from some reports on Reddit by a small number of users, according to which the way may have been paved for the introduction of user profiles. The function would have been identified in the Discover screen, following the appearance of a new icon in the upper right of the interface, next to the settings button. Here are a couple of screens that certify what has been explained.
Trying to click on the profile icon brings up a new page asking you to choose your primary TV account and presenting options to add or remove one. The page also notes that the main account is used for checklists and purchases.
The novelty was iInterpreted as a preliminary introduction to user profilesalthough as Google TV device owners well know, it doesn’t seem exactly the same solution adopted in Google TV because in fact there is no actual user profile selector, capable of actually changing the initial screen.
At the moment it has more of the semblance of a new interface for controlling the Google accounts connected to the device, but it could be the beginning of a more advanced change. For the moment, there are few testimonials, so we will have to wait for new signals or more substantial changes.
Recall that Google TV user profiles launched in June 2022 and have since then been widely available for devices such as Chromecast and televisions from various brands, including TCL, Hisense, Sony and many others. Does anyone among you have an Nvidia Shield TV set-top box in your hands and are you experimenting with the novelty? Let us know in the comments.
