Augmented reality (AR) has been around for several years, but has so far failed to take off commercially. Rumors indicate that both Apple and Samsung are working on their own “smart glasses” that could see the light of day in the not too distant future. Now two new leaked videos offer a fairly detailed look at what Samsung’s Augmented Reality glasses could look like. Although at first glance they could be mistaken for promotional videos of commercial products, it seems that they are intended exclusively for internal research and development. These are almost certainly conceptual devices that are unlikely to materialize anytime soon. The video shows the Samsung Glasses Lite, with a somewhat bulky size and immersive gaming, multimedia, productivity and video calling functions. Samsung shows glasses capable of enjoying games and movies, as well as sending emails and making video calls with the help of a virtual screen. Of course, the company also intends to integrate this device with other products in the house, such as Galaxy watches and DeX software.

Before getting your hopes up too much, keep in mind that building such a product, without connection to a phone, PC, or other external power source, is complicated, not to mention very expensive. The same can be said of the Samsung AR Glasses shown in the second leaked video, which are the “3D holographic version” of the Glasses Lite. The Samsung AR Glasses could be the Samsung Glasses no-Lite, designed to compete against the Microsoft HoloLens 2. AR Office, Holo Call and AR Simulation are the three cases that are promoted in the video.

The HoloLens 2 cost more than 3,800 euros and, although it is obviously too early to say about the possible sale price of Samsung glasses, they will surely be quite expensive.
