The Twitter team announced that it will change some issues related to sanctions for accounts that violate its rules.
Less severe measures and the possibility of appealing are some of the changes that will begin to be implemented on Twitter.
Twitter will implement new measures against those who break the rules
In December 2022, Twitter began to reinstate some accounts that were suspended, as they detected “several policies where the permanent suspension was a disproportionate action for breaking the rules.”
Following the same line, the Twitter team now announces an update on this topic, and how they will act against those who violate the rules of the platform. For example, they have mentioned that as of February 1, any user will be able to appeal an account suspension so that the decision is evaluated according to the new Twitter rules.
Of course, this does not mean that Twitter will wipe the slate clean with everyone, as it has already shown by reaffirming its decision with accounts that have committed serious violations within the platform. This same rule will continue to apply in the future:
Account suspension will be reserved for serious or ongoing violations of our policies. Serious violations include, but are not limited to, engaging in illegal content or activity, inciting or threatening violence or harm, privacy violations, platform manipulation or spam, and engaging in harassment directed at our users.
As for the rest of the infractions, Twitter promises that it will apply “less severe measures.” For example, the penalty may only include limiting the visibility of violating content, or asking the user to delete the tweets in question if they want to continue using their Twitter account.
These measures will begin to be implemented from February, although we may see more updates related to this topic in the future.
