Twitter has implemented a feature that allows users to search for the price of certain listed shares and cryptocurrencies simply by typing the corresponding symbol in the search bar.
For example, if a user types “$GOOG” or “$ETH” (without the quotes) into the search bar, Twitter will display the current price of that stock or cryptocurrency.
Users will see a static image showing the current price of the stock or cryptocurrency and a chart with no X or Y axis information. This chart is presumed to show the most recent closing price of the stock.
Twitter obtains the data from the Tradingview website, but no details on the trade deals behind this move have been released.
Twitter has also not indicated which symbols are included in the list of direct search results for stock prices, there are some that do appear, but others do not.
It actually makes a lot of sense, because if Twitter is the “what’s going on” content network, it might as well show the stock price at this exact moment, thus avoiding us having to go to other search engines that are not as focused on the news in real time.
Much has happened from the “what are you doing” of more than a decade ago to “what is happening now”, but everything seems to indicate that everything will change much more since Elon is in charge of Twitter. They will be interesting months, without a doubt.
