It was nice while it lasted, but the Fleets, Twitter’s version of Stories, has not met the goal of encouraging users to make more posts on the platform. At the time, on Twitter they thought that the ephemeral nature of the publications, lasting 24 hours, would encourage users to publish more, including those aspects that they did not dare to publish in conventional tweets.

But eight months after its widespread launch, Twitter now says goodbye to a function that at the time was criticized by many users, understanding that it altered the essence of the platform. It sounds strange when even the platform was also testing the inclusion of advertising fleets, jumping the news of their disappearance on August 3 by surprise.

We were hoping that Fleets would help more people feel comfortable joining the conversation on Twitter. But, since we introduced fleets to everyone, we haven’t seen an increase in the number of new people joining the conversation with fleets as we expected. Because of this, on August 3, Fleets will no longer be available on Twitter.

According to the learning itself, fleets have been used basically by those who already publish regularly on the platform in order to amplify their message. From Twitter they hope to bring some capabilities to the conventional tweet writer:

We’ll be testing Tweet editor and camera updates soon to incorporate Fleets composer features like full-screen camera, text formatting options, and GIF stickers.

On TwitterDespite seeing that the Fleets have not come to work, they will continue to look at possible ways that allow greater user participation. In this sense, they declare the following:

We will continue to create new ways to engage in conversations, listening to feedback, and changing direction when there may be a better way to serve people who use Twitter.

The date of death has been set for next August 3, at which time the Fleets will no longer be shown., although users will continue to see the avatars of the audio rooms that are active at all times.

Those who wish to continue with ephemeral publications should bet on platforms such as Instagram or Snapchat, where this publication format originates from until Instagram included it in its service and made it popular.
