Twitter for iOS is updated with a new $8 subscription plan, verification, and more.

Twitter for iOS gets an update this weekend with support for the new Twitter Blue subscription plan, which lets users pay $8 a month to get verified on the platform, with other perks like fewer ads and priority responses.

Following the App Store update, Twitter users in the US, UK, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand will be able to subscribe to Twitter Blue and will be automatically verified with a blue check mark once the plan goes live. March.

According to a Twitter product manager, despite the app update, the new Twitter Blue plan is not yet live and Twitter is running “real-time” tests.

Some users may notice changes to the app after the update while Twitter is testing the new plan.

We leave you the full version notes of the Twitter update for iOS:

Starting today, we’re adding new features to Twitter Blue, with more on the way. You can get Twitter Blue for $7.99 per month by signing up now.

*Blue Checkmark: Power to the People: Your account is marked with a blue checkmark, as are the celebrities, businesses, and politicians you already follow.

Coming soon. Half as many ads and better ads: Because you’re helping Twitter fight bots, we’ll reward you with half as many ads and make them twice as relevant.

*Post longer videos: You can finally post longer videos on Twitter.

*Preferential placement of quality content: Your content will receive preferential treatment in replies, mentions, and searches. This reduces the visibility of scams, spam, and bots.

*Availability: Twitter Blue with verification is currently available for iOS in the US, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and the UK.

With this update, Twitter has also removed all previous verification infrastructure, including the previously required application process.

In the notifications tab, the special “Verified” feed is now the default feed and you will have to scroll down to see notifications from unverified accounts.

Some server-side aspects of the new Twitter Blue subscription are still under development. This means that delays or error messages may occur as Twitter continues to make changes behind the scenes.

Twitter uses Apple’s in-app payment platform for Twitter Blue subscriptions, which means the company shares 30% of revenue with Apple.

You can manage your Twitter Blue subscription through the iPhone Settings app or the App Store.

The new subscription service has been in the news in recent weeks. Twitter’s new owner, Tesla CEO Elon Musk, has promised to reduce spam on the platform.

The edit button, previously only available to Twitter Blue subscribers, will reportedly be available to all Twitter users in the future.
