Tweets of up to 4,000 characters are now available to Twitter Blue subscribers. And while most may not have opted into this plan yet, or may not be within the territory where it’s been enabled, you’ll still come across these tweets when browsing the platform.
While it’s an advantage for subscribers, these tweets have some limitations over 280-character tweets. We tell you the details below.
4000 character tweets now available for Twitter Blue subscribers
4000 character tweets was one of the features promised to subscribers of Twitter Blue. An update that is beginning to be available to some, since in this first stage they are being enabled only for subscribers in the United States. And it is possible that in the coming months it will be extended to the rest of the countries where Twitter Blue operates.
Users will not find changes in terms of the composition of these tweets, beyond having thousands of characters to express themselves, and not being limited to 280 characters. They will be able to add images, videos, GIFs, polls, hashtags, and links just like any other tweet.
However, there are some limitations. For example, these longer tweets cannot be saved as drafts, nor can they be scheduled to post later. So you’ll have to write a draft in some editor you have on your computer and save it until you think it’s convenient to publish it.
However, unless you’re spontaneous and like to post your thoughts as they come to you, it’s normal to write a tweet of this length elsewhere and then paste it on Twitter. Perhaps what can be a problem for some users is not having the possibility of programming them, as it happens with normal tweets.
On the other hand, Twitter has also considered that these long tweets do not harm the user experience when they scroll through the platform. So the limit of 280 characters to show on the timeline will be respected, and the message “Show more” will be added so that the user knows that the tweet continues. So just by clicking on that option you can see the full tweet.
And of course, any user, whether they are a subscriber or not, will be able to interact with these tweets, and leave a like, comment or retweet without problems.
