Google Meet, the Google platform focused on holding virtual meetings, has just improved its real-time translated subtitles functions, as well as standard subtitles, in the search for a greater number of people to attend and understand what is being said. they comment in the scheduled meetings in which they participate, whether the same language is used or languages other than their own.
Regarding subtitles translated in real time, designed to reduce language barriers, this feature arrived in beta phase in September of last year, and earlier this year it was officially launched for all users, although initially it only supported translations from English to French, German, Portuguese and Spanish, but not vice versa.
Reducing language and accessibility barriers in meetings
This situation changes now as support for real-time translated subtitles expands with the advent of translations from English into Japanese, Mandarin (Simplified), and Swedish, as well as from French, German, Portuguese, and Spanish into English.
This way, a greater number of possibilities are covered in translations between different languagesreaching all end users of Google Meet, without the administrators of the organizations to which they belong having to take any action.
And, according to Google, this function is available for meetings organized by customers of Google Workspace Business Standard, Business Plus, Enterprise Starter, Enterprise Standard, Enterprise Plus, Education Plus editions and the Teaching and Learning update.
Regarding the standard subtitles, Google expands support for Japanese, Russian, Italian, Korean, Dutch, Portuguese, and Mandarin (traditional). Some of these languages will have the “Beta” label and from Google they promise that new languages will arrive over time.
For this feature, Google says it’s available to all Google Workspace users, as well as legacy G Suite Basic and Business users.
The expansion towards the new languages should have already been completed, having had a period of one to three days for its deployment to all users of the aforementioned editions, depending on each function.
