Tragic teenage Glasnevin crash victim named locally as heartbreaking tributes pour in

Heartbreaking tributes have poured in for the tragic teenager who died following a horror crash between a car and two motorcycles in North Dublin.

Calvin Gilchrist was the driver of one of the bikes involved in the smash on the Finglas Road in Glasnevin at around 10:15pm last night.

He and another teenage boy, a passenger on one of the motorbikes, were rushed from the scene to the Mater Hospital.

Mr Gilchrist was pronounced dead at the hospital, while the passenger, aged in his mid-teens, remains in hospital this afternoon in a stable condition.

Social media posts from those offering their heartfelt condolences and thoughts for Calvin and his family have poured in.

One devastated friend wrote: “There are no words. Life is so cruel. Heartbroken for my best pal.”

Another said: “Waking up and coming on here to see such sad news. My god, RIP Calvin.”

Another wrote: “RIP Calvin. It’s shocking, I can’t believe it.”

And another said: “Way too young to die, bikes are way too dangerous. Rest in peace Calvin, watch over all your pals.”

Forensic investigators combed the road last night, which has since reopened, and Gardai are appealing for any witnesses to the tragic accident to come forward.

The full Garda statement reads: “Gardai in Mountjoy are investigating a fatal road traffic collision that occurred on the Finglas Road in Glasnevin, Co. Dublin yesterday evening Saturday 31st July, 2021.The collision occurred at approximately 10.15pm when two motorcycles collided with a car.

“Two males were taken from the scene to the Mater Misericordiae Hospital.

“A male in his late teens, the driver of the motorcycle, was later pronounced deceased. A post-mortem will follow.

“A passenger one of the motorcycles, a male in his mid-teens, continues to receive treatment for his injuries. These are not believed to be life threatening.

“The driver of the car was uninjured. No other injuries have been reported at this time.

“Garda Forensic Collision Investigators have completed their examination of the scene and the road is now re-open.

“Gardai are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed this collision to come forward. Any road users who were travelling on the Finglas Road on Saturday 31st July between 10.10pm and 10.25p.m and who may have camera footage (including dash cam) is asked to make it available to Gardai.

“Anyone with any information is asked to contact Mountjoy Garda Station on 01 666 8600, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda station.”
