Do you like the dynamic island of your new iPhone 14 Pro or 14 Pro Max? Or is it distracting when it displays information about activity in the background?

First of all, you should know that it is not possible to disable Dynamic Island permanently, but there is a way to do it temporarily.

First of all, although it’s obvious, Dynamic Island is not only a feature that shows you information about the activity of your device, but also hides the selfie camera and Face ID components. Therefore, it cannot be completely removed.

If you minimize Apple Music while it’s playing a song, or the Clock app while the timer is active, or you connect a pair of AirPods to your phone, these all show up on the Dynamic Island.

However, if for some reason you want to get rid of the persistent prompt that shows up on the Dynamic Island when there’s something going on in the background (like a timer countdown), there is a way to at least temporarily disable it.

So you can disable the Dynamic Island temporarily

The solution is simple thanks to this trick: Just swipe left or right on the Dynamic Island and it will be silenced until the next time it is invoked by some application.

Now in iOS 16.0.2 (the current official version), it is only partially disabled. For example, when playing music, the waveform shown on the right disappears. Similarly, in a timer, the countdown on the right disappears. In the iOS 16.1 betahowever, both notices seem to disappear on Dynamic Island.

This action does not disable the background app that invoked the Dynamic Island. For example, if you do this while Apple Music is playing a song, the song will still play, but it will no longer appear on the Dynamic Island.

The downside to this is that once you’ve swiped left or right on the Dynamic Island, tapping on the Dynamic Island won’t bring up Apple Music again. However, the next time you minimize the Apple Music app, it will reappear on the Dynamic Island, so its effect is only temporary.
