There is a secret message in the Perseverance rover's parachute to Mars

The parachute that helped NASA’s Perseverance rover land on Mars last week contains a hidden message. Obviously, as often (although not always) users of the web world have deciphered the message within a few hours.

The red and white pattern of the parachute (which you can see at the bottom of the news) indicates the word “Give Mighty Things“, but not in letters or numbers, but in the form of a coded message. The saying is the motto of the Perseverance team, and can also be found on the walls of Mission Control at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL), the headquarters of the team protagonist of the mission.

The parachute is white and red with colors that alternate in different sizes. Simply, the different reasons of the instrument used for landing led users to think they must “divide” the shades of the parachute into binary numbers, that is 0 and 1, a language used purely in the computer and electronic fields.

After several tests, users discovered the coded message: after the sequence of 1’s and 0’s were divided into 7-digit sections, users converted each number to a letter of the alphabet, as you can see in a tweet below. The combination of the letters subsequently reconstructed the famous phrase “Dare Mighty Things”.

The (unofficial) motto of the JPL was uttered by none other than Theodore Roosevelt in 1899 when he was governor of New York.
