Xiaomi announced its Xiaomi 12S Ultra flagship a few weeks ago in China, standing out for the huge 1″ sensor that incorporates its camera. Unfortunately, the device will not go on sale in Spain.

DXOMARK experts have analyzed the photographic performance of the device. After undergoing camera tests, the device demonstrated excellent image quality, although, surprisingly, it scored lower than its predecessor, the Xiaomi Mi 11 Ultra (143).

With a overall score of 138 on camera the Xiaomi 12S Ultra really excelled in photographic performance, offering very good photo quality in most use cases, with good color rendering, high noise-to-detail ratio, and extended dynamic range in indoor conditions. and exteriors.

The autofocus accuracy  is also a strong point of the device in most lighting conditions. Thanks to the hardware of the ultra-wide and telephoto cameras, the device also excelled in zoom performance, especially in long-range shots, despite some instabilities.

When it comes to night photography, the device behaves quite well at night with a very extended dynamic range that allows you to capture very contrasty scenes while maintaining a high level of detail.

On the other hand, the video performance of the Xiaomi 12S Ultra is at a very high level, and most users will be able to record very eye-catching video footage. In fact, video recordings show good dynamic range, natural rendering of textures in bright light, and good exposure in low light.

Though the Xiaomi 12S Ultra secures a position in the top 5 of the DXOMARK camera ranking cWith strong hardware, DXOMark claims that “The device appears to be less reliable and consistent compared to other high-performance devices in its class like the Apple iPhone 13 Pro.”

DXOMark notes that the Xiaomi 12S Ultra featured high shutter lag in low-light and all-light HDR conditions when tested, preventing users from capturing the right moment, a noticeable difference compared to the other devices. Ultra-Premium, like the iPhone 13 Pro Max, the Google Pixel 6 Pro or the Honor Magic 4 Ultimate.

In addition, the device showed some inconsistency in preview tests resulting in a captured image that is very different from the preview shot visible on the screen (for example, HDR is not applied to the preview and the bokeh effect is very different from the actual capture).
