A few days ago, CD Projekt Red finally released the new version of The Witcher 3, which brought new generation features to the acclaimed title released in 2015. Unfortunately, the game came with some bugs and underperforming, which led to the Polish developer to release some interim fixes while working on the ultimate solution.
This week, CDPR released a new update package for the game, which promises to fix some of the most immediate issues.
The new version of The Witcher 3 brings very impressive graphics and textures when compared to the original version, even more so on the PC, which offers effects with ray tracing, global lighting, shadows, ambient occlusion and reflections, as well as graphics settings Ultra Plus, but as you’d expect, it wouldn’t take long for modders to release improvements to the game as well.
In just a few days, we already have the first graphics mod that takes the new version of The Witcher 3 beyond the vision of the developers. NexusMods user A100N found additional parameters working for all of the following configurations:
- Number of background characters +1 setting
- Shadow quality +4 setting
- Terrain quality +1 setting
- Water quality +3 setting
- Foliage visibility range +2 setting
- Grass Density +3 setting
- Texture quality +1 setting
- Level of detail +1 setting
As you can see in the video above, the result is quite impressive. Extreme settings primarily improve LOD and mesh and foliage detail over the standard version of The Witcher 3 Next-Gen. Additionally, ray tracing effects such as reflections take advantage of the improved range, allowing for impressive views across lakes and open water.
Bearing in mind that the game is not yet fully optimized, running it with these modifications may require a very powerful machine, and it is better to wait for more official fixes to stabilize performance.
As for the patch pack released by CD Projekt Red, its description indicates that it brings overall stability improvement to the game and fixes photo mode, in-game Arabic language, fixes the toxicity bug, Steam Deck improvements, and more.
So, what did you think of the changes created by the fan?
