The wireless charging revolution... It's here!

The Wireless Power Consortium (WPC) has announced a new wireless charging standard. Is named Qi2. And what makes it interesting is that it will unify all wireless charging standards. In other words, it will officially carry the technology MagSafe to devices Android. Great news for all lovers of mobile technology.

A first phase of this wireless revolution

Although it was announced in CES 2023we expected chargers to arrive with Qi2 compatibility towards the end of 2023. And when it finally makes its debut, wireless charging will undoubtedly offer a much more convenient way to charge devices wirelessly.

The Qi wireless charging standard has been around for over a decade. However, WPC found that retailers and consumers found this standard a bit confusing. Specifically, the differences between non-Qi certified and Qi certified devices are not easy to grasp.

As we are entering the first phase of this new wireless charging standard, WPC has stated the following. “Qi2 will be the world standard for wireless charging and will offer that guarantee to consumers and retailers,” they say from the Wireless Power Consortium.

Qi 2 is full of advantages for the future

By building the new standard on the MagSafe of the iPhones, WPC aims to achieve a global standard. There are also other collaborators from other members of the consortium. And thanks to this combined effort, the Qi2 will offer a new magnetic power profile. That will allow users to effortlessly align wireless charging with their devices.

But comfort isn’t the only factor that makes the Qi2 great. It will also offer a more efficient and faster wireless charging solution. Although we haven’t gotten any in-depth details on the standard, WPC has revealed that “Qi2 will have an initial power of up to 15W. As soon as the specifications are complete, WPC will begin specifications for higher power/faster charging versions of Qi2.” ».

If the number rings a bell, it’s because Apple MagSafe offers the same charging speed. It can provide 15W of maximum power, ensuring optimal charging speed. This charging speed is also said to take into account the health of the battery. However, as they say from WPC, “Qi2 will undoubtedly offer greater speed as it matures a little more.”
