Apple will reportedly debut its phone iPhone SE generation in the first half of next year, according to a report by the Digitimes.
The third generation of the iPhone SE is coming soon
Apple has been making its (comparatively) low-cost smartphone models for the past five years, releasing its two previous versions in 2016 and 2020 respectively.
This timeline supports an earlier report by TF International Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo. In a recent note to investors, Kuo gave a similar schedule for the iPhone SE third generation.
He also suggested that it would stay in the same design form factor as the current iPhone SE. However, it would come with a processor upgrade and 5G. Kuo said it might as well be the cheapest 5G phone yet, which, given the $ 399 price of the current SE on the market, seems credible.
Even an earlier report, this time from the founder of DisplaySearch, also suggested that the next iPhone SE it will still have the same 4.7-inch LCD screen. That report said it would be launched in 2022 and that “It could also have 5G with Sub-6 GHz”.
The current (2nd gen) SE uses the body of the iPhone 8, but supercharges the internals. That made it the only phone of the current era to stick with the home button.
There have been rumors of a future edge-to-edge iPhone SE, in line with the full-screen design which debuted with the iPhone X in 2017. But it seems likely that it won’t be released for a long time. In other words, expect the home button to stick around for a few more years.
We will continue to monitor any other information that comes out about Apple’s most affordable smartphone, which has been widely accepted by fans of the brand.
