The rich funerary equipment of a teenager from ancient Egypt came to light

An ancient sarcophagus containing the remains of a young woman who lived in the ancient land of the pharaohs of 3500 years ago.

The discovery took place, as reported byEgypt Today, in a known location called Draa Abul Naga. Here Egyptian archaeologists found an ancient sarcophagus dating back to 3500 years ago with the remains of a teenager inside. The sarcophagus measures 1.75 meters in length and is only 0.33 meters wide. It seems to have been carved from a single piece coming from a sycamore tree and used to contain, over time, the remains of a girl who, at the time of death, must have been between 15 and 16 years old. The outer surface of the sarcophagus was painted and it may seem strange to us that it was only 0.33 meters wide.

For this reason, the girl’s body was placed on its side precisely because it was not wide enough. At the time of the girl’s death in ancient Egypt, she ruled seventeenth dynasty and his body was buried with various accessories including an earring and a three-strand necklace, one with blue beads, one with green stones and the last consisting of dozens of small pieces of amethyst, amber, blue glass, pearls and, finally, a ceramic-like material. And not only. The body was covered with one copper foil and many amulets and two reproductions of beetles have also been found. Among the amulets, the most important is, perhaps, the eye of Horus.

The latter is a key symbol of the religion of ancient Egypt and was often associated with prosperity, good health, but was also a symbol that conferred protection and represented a royal lineage. Other objects that belonged to the woman, which have been found inside the mortuary, are a pair of red sandals and leather balls, tied with string. Both of these objects were perhaps useful for dance or sporting events in which the girl actively participated. But the surprises don’t end there. Next to the sarcophagus, there was another, smaller one, with four wooden statues inside wrapped in linen rolls. Carvers, on one of these wooden objects, had engraved the story of Osiris, the Egyptian god of the dead.
