Three years ago, in March 2020, the world was paralyzed by a hitherto unknown virus that would eventually be confirmed to cause many deaths among those who were infected. It was called COVID-19 and it caused the strategies of high companies to falter. On-site work was replaced by remote work, and that had its good and bad points. Now that normality has returned, going back to the previous situation seems to be not as easy as it was supposed to be.
Face-to-face work is important to Apple, but employees don’t feel the same way
When we were in the middle of the pandemic, one of the solutions that was implemented at the business level was remote work. This meant an exponential growth in sales in those companies dedicated to the sale of technological material. Apple was one of them, but in turn, it had to spending a lot of money preparing the company for remote work.
In addition, there were tasks that could not be done remotely and essential workers had to go to the company in person, but in spaced shifts. Logically this influenced productivity but that not reflected in profit margin that continued to climb and reach record numbers.
As the situation became less tense and the medical authorities relaxed sanitary measures, the company was tending towards what almost all of them are already tending to do, which is face-to-face work, especially since it generates more productivity and less expenses. At the moment, in the case of Apple, you are in a hybrid model. That is, the workers work remotely a couple of days a week and the rest they do in person. However, workers do not follow this pattern as they should. And it is that returning to the initial situation is not as easy as expected.
In a post on Twitter, Schiffer, from platformerexplained that Apple is starting to issue serious warnings to employees if they do not comply with the work requirements in person.
Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman has already reported that in order to reduce expenses, Apple wants face-to-face work. Therefore he is being stricter with the compliance with those three days a week that they have to meet in person.
There is even talk that they can take measures such as dismissalAlthough it is not Apple’s policy if it can be a good incentive to comply with that return to work.
