The Redmi Note 12 have competition: this is how they stand against the Redmi Note 13, the great duel of the mid-range

Xiaomi renews its best-selling range of mobile phones: the Redmi Note 12 has great (and powerful) heirs in the Redmi Note 13

Last year’s successful mid-range models have a new version embodied in the Redmi Note 13: Xiaomi renews the base of the family with more power, better design and higher resolution cameras. But what really changes with respect to the Redmi Note 12? It’s time to face them face to face to find out the similarities and their differences.

Xiaomi was diversifying its smartphone catalog to cover all price ranges. In the economic zone there are the Redmi, in the premium area there are just the Xiaomi. And in between we have a line of phones, the Redmi Note, which not only made the balance between good features and price accessible, they also expanded the borders to reach the high range. With this diversification approach, Xiaomi renews the family with Redmi Note 13 that promise to repeat the success of its predecessors. Can they beat the Redmi Note 12? They don’t lack skills.

A more than welcome jump in power

It is not that the Redmi Note 12 fell short in terms of specifications, that the entire family is enough and more than enough to offer a good experience with Android. Even so, it doesn’t hurt that a new iteration implies a real leap in performance: The Redmi Note 13 release new processors to become a better choice for those who want the most for their money.

The jump on paper is notable: from the basic mobile phone to the Pro+. Improvement in performance, lower energy consumption on paper and the most powerful of MediaTek along with the new Qualcomm processor for the high range: the Snapdragon 7S Gen 2.

Same screen diagonal for all six models with a noticeable increase in maximum brightness for the Redmi Note 13, especially in the Pro: Xiaomi has doubled the highest level of nits on these models. And a curious detail: the Redmi Note 13 Pro+ has the first curved AMOLED panel in the family. The high-end is getting deeper and deeper into the Redmi.

Greater amount of RAM in the new models, up to 512 GB in the Pro and without major changes in battery, fast charging, all include headphone jack, double stereo speaker and infrared emitter.

Xiaomi has improved the design of the Redmi Note 13 to bring them closer to the high-end. More stylized lines, curves everywhere, glass finishes for the back and vegan leather details for the most distinguished Pro.

The 200 megapixels stand out in the Redmi Note 13

The cameras of the Redmi Note 12 left us with very good feelings during our analyses: despite being a manual mid-range, Xiaomi managed to get significantly closer to the photographic performance of its high-end. And with the Redmi Note 13 the bet goes up in raw numbers; always waiting for us to check what the real performance is in the analyses.

The triple camera combination is maintained in the compared models except for the Redmi Note 13 5G, which loses the wide angle. The Pro adopt the 200 megapixel ISOCELL HP3 sensorpresent in the Redmi Note 12 Pro+ from last year. Both top models maintain OIS mechanical stabilization on the main sensor.

Xiaomi has refined its bet to round out a family that was already very good last year. And with prices that aim to remain the same, at least with regard to the release in China: in the absence of knowing when they will arrive in Europe, something that we do not expect until 2024, the new Redmi Note 13 look really good.
