Qualcomm could launch its next flagship smartphone chip earlier than usual. Rumors suggest that the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 will arrive a few weeks before its predecessor. The Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 went official in mid-November last year.
The latest rumor comes from the well-known informant Digital ChatStation, who claims that the company will introduce the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 “a little earlier” than last year. If true, the new chipset could arrive at the end of October this year.
Qualcomm launched the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 at the end of November 2021. So last year’s launch has already been pushed back a couple of weeks.
Just three months ago the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 was officially presented. Unsurprisingly, there haven’t been many rumors about the third generation yet. However, we have heard that the new chipset will be based on a 3nm manufacturing process and will be manufactured by TSMC.
Samsung began mass production of 3nm chips before the Taiwanese firm, but the latter has achieved healthier performance rates. Samsung will only take orders for Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 if TSMC is unable to supply the required volume.
With a 3nm manufacturing process, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 should be much more efficient than the current chipset.
