vivo announces the mobile phone with the best telephoto camera on the market

Samsung and other manufacturers like vivo are betting on exponentially improving photography with the inclusion of this type of cameras.

Just a week ago MediaTek announced the new Dimensity 9300 chip that has a slightly particular core structure that is far from that used in Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 3. Vivo has counted on this chip to carry it inside its two new flagships: the vivo X100 and X100 Pro. Both phones have outstanding photographyespecially because of the rear-mounted periscopic system camera.

This 50 Mpx camera with 4.1x optical zoom magnification and f/2.5 aperture really offers great flexibilitysince it can be used as a telephoto lens or just like a microscope for macro photos. And in both aspects, the experience achieved, as announced by the Chinese brand, is simply wonderful. The vivo X100 hits the Chinese market with a price of 514 euros and the X100 Pro reaches the figure of 642 euros.

The two phones have some similar features such as the same Dimensity 9300 chip, a 6.78 inch LTPO OLED display with 2,800 x 1,2600 resolution (peak brightness of 3,000 nits), dual stereo speakers, infrared emitter and IP68 certification for resistance against water and dust. The biggest differences really exist in the camera configuration of both Vivo X100 phones.

Apart from being the smartphone with the best telephoto camera on the market, it can also be called the mobile phone with the most flexible photography thanks to the use of that periscope camera that allows you to take macro photos of enormous quality thanks to the 100mm focal length (the Galaxy S23 Ultra stays at 500 mm with its camera dedicated to 10x optical zoom).

So whether it is to portray close-up subjects with that periscopic camera or macro thanks to the focal length and its ability to magnify the plane, the vivo X100 Pro is a true feat for photography from a mobile device. It also includes a sun mode, although it is expected that it will not be the same as the brand’s supermoon mode that simply added a fake moon (Samsung also does this with its Galaxy S23).

The sunshine mode of the vivo X100 Pro

Apart from the 50 Mpx 100 mm periscope camera with 4.1xyf/2.5 zoom, the vivo X100 Pro has two other cameras on the rear: 50 Mpx main with a one-inch Sony IMX989 sensor and a 50 Mpx ultra wide angle (IMX866). Apart from the hardware, the Vivo X100 Pro stands out for the use of various modes. One of them mimics Apple’s with portrait video recording with automatic autofocus and the ability to adjust blur levels.

The other two modes are a 35mm and sun mode, dedicated to photography in which the solar star takes center stage and thus does not make the rest of the environment and the sky disappear (a photograph showing this mode is attached). Apart from all these features, the vivo X100 Pro has a 5,400 mAh battery, 100W ultra-fast charging and 50W wireless charging.

The other model, the vivo X100, play with another deck of cards on the back for the cameras: a 50 Mpx main one (IMX920), a 50 Mpx ultra wide angle and a 64 Mpx telephoto lens with 3x optical zoom. And although the flexible periscope camera is not present in the X100, it also offers a great macro photo experience. Of course, the battery remains at 5,000 mAh and fast charging increases to 120 W, but without wireless support.
