The first trailer for the HBO series “The Last of Us” is oppressive like the video game template. The series is scheduled to air in 2023.
HBO has released a first trailer for the upcoming series The Last of Us. It is based on the video games of the same name from the Sony development studio Naughty Dog and follows their main characters Joel and Ellie on their survival tour through the zombie states.
The video makes it clear that the HBO series should be as oppressive as the video game template. In the “Last of Us” universe, the survivors of the zombie apocalypse have formed groups and are fighting against the undead.

At the center of the story are hard-bitten Joel, played by Pedro Pascal, and 14-year-old Ellie (Bella Ramsey). The HBO series is produced by Craig Mazin (“Chernobyl”) and Neil Druckmann. Druckmann is Creative Director at the Naughty Dog development studio and was already responsible for the history of the video games. In Germany, the HBO series will be shown on Sky parallel to the US broadcast. The producers are currently only mentioning 2023 as a period of time, there is no more precise date yet.
“The Last of Us” goes multiplayer
The HBO TV series is based on the first part of “The Last of Us”, which was released in 2013 for the Playstation 3, followed in 2020 by “The Last of Us Part 2”. Sony recently re-released Part 1 as “The Last of Us Part 1”: The technique of “The Last of Us Part 1” roughly corresponds to “The Last of Us Part 2”, which was released in 2020.
Animations and effects are at a correspondingly high level, and the Naughty Dog development studio has also revised gameplay systems and AI. The character models for main characters Ellie and Joel have also been raised to the level of part 2. Sony is also working on a multiplayer spin-off of the post-apocalyptic game series. There is no name and release date yet.
