All our lives we have carried the information of our mobile phone line inside a SIM card. That piece of plastic with a chip that is able to identify us to the connection posts of our operator to have the possibility of making voice calls and connecting to the internet. Now, in recent years, there has been a technology capable of safely storing that same information inside the smartphone in a totally digital way.
These are eSIMs, or electronic SIM cards, that are housed inside the device and that allow us, in the case of iPhones, bring a second line into the terminal. You no longer need two separate trays, as many Android phones carry, to have that dual capacity to store two lines at the same time inside the same terminal. So this new step from Apple seems to us more than interesting.
Safer and easier to modify
Since the presentation of the new iPhone 13 last week, we have been learning about some features that the Cupertino people did not waste time in treating within the keynote. And one of them is precisely this, the one that their new smartphones will be able to store up to two eSIMs at the same time, that is, we will not need to carry a plastic SIM installed in the device.
This dual eSIM option it is perfect for those who need to wear their personal and professional lines and have them, in addition, shielded inside the terminal. Because one of the advantages of this system is that in the event of theft, no one can remove the mobile line to install another, at least without the permission of its owner. This added security is important to recover the device and know where it is, thanks to the inability to deactivate the mobile line until the iPhone is turned off.
As you know, for this eSIM function to be functional, your operator must be able to offer it among its product catalog, Either through a physical card that contains a QR code that we must scan, or through a URL that opens inside the iPhone when we want to register new lines. Either way, the installation of this dual eSIM occurs quickly and, most importantly, without opening the SIM tray which, from that moment on, will become a beautiful relic of the past.
