A Ubisoft has announced that it does not intend to release native versions of Tom Clancy’s The Division 2 for the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S consoles. The developer explained that the measure is not to leave PS4 and Xbox One players behind.
According to the company, in order for The Division 2 game to be able to fully exploit the power of current generation consoles, PS4 and Xbox One players would have to be left out, and many new features would not be available to them.
“If we really wanted to take full advantage of them [PS5 e Xbox Series]since we only have one version of the game available on all platforms, taking full advantage would mean that the game would no longer be available on previous generations,” explained the game’s creative director, Yannick Banchereau.
It is worth noting that owners of PS5 and Xbox Series X/S can play The Division 2 from backward compatibility mode. However, the news discourages those who hoped for a native version of the game for current generation consoles.
The Division 2 was originally released in March 2019, with versions for PS4, Xbox One and PC. Last week, The Division 2’s fifth year of content was introduced to fans of Ubisoft’s post-pandemic co-op shooter.
About the continuation of the series, the Ubisoft has not yet revealed any details of a possible The Division 3. In any case, if the franchise has a continuation, it shouldn’t arrive anytime soon. We just have to wait.
