A 16-year-old teenager died after his smartphone explode while charging. The accident happened in Baduan district, located in the state of Uttar Pradesh, India.

According to family reports, the teenager was talking on the phone while the device was charging, but he ended up receiving an electrical shock before the device exploded and started to catch fire.

The boy was rescued and sent to an emergency room in the region, but the death was found by the medical team minutes after the teenager was admitted to the hospital.

Indian authorities are investigating the case and did not say which brand of smartphone caused the fatality, but the police representative said the device belongs to “a big brand”.

In addition, it was also found that the smartphone was purchased at a used store together with a smart watch. The price paid for the two devices was 20 thousand rupees (~R$ 1,235).

As the teenager died from the electrical discharge and not the explosion, the authorities believe that the short circuit could be much more relevant to the investigation of the case.

In any case, the guideline is not to use the smartphone when it is charging. This is because the device can overheat during prolonged use and end up causing accidents.
