Spotify just announced the arrival of music videos to its application as a limited test that will be available in eleven countries. With the novelty, we can alternate between listening to the song as usual or switching to its music video.

Even though Spotify announced the arrival of video more than a decade ago, in the end the thing was left in the Canvases, small video loops that repeat over and over again, often fragments of the song’s music video. He new video mode is a direct attack on one of the strong points of YouTube (and YouTube Music), music videos.

Music videos come to Spotify

He video killed the radio star and now the radio wants to kill video with “if you can’t handle them, join them”: Spotify is already testing the music videos within your appthus entering a field that until now was dominated by Google and YouTube.

Music videos come to Spotify as evidence in eleven countries: United Kingdom, Germany, Italy, Netherlands, Poland, Sweden, Brazil, Colombia, Philippines, Indonesia and Kenya. In them, a new button will appear Switch to video when we are listening to a song for which Spotify has its music video.

These music videos will be on Spotify, wherever we are using it. They will be seen on Android phones, iPhone, PC and TV versions, being a function exclusive for Premium subscribers. That is, if you don’t pay, there are no music videos for you on Spotify.

This first beta phase of the music videos premieres on Spotify with a reduced catalog that includes some songs from artists such as Ed Sheeran, Doja Cat, Ice Spice, Aluna or Asake.

At the moment, there is no news of its arrival in Spain and other countries, although Spotify warns that the idea is to increase the catalog of music videos and bring the feature to more users and countries in the future.
