Sony and Lineage Creator May Develop Horizon MMORPG

Sony and NCSoft may have struck a deal to create a Horizon MMORPG, according to news website MTN.

The project would be developed by the South Korean company responsible for Lineage and Guild Wars, as part of Sony’s initiative to invest in games as a service.

NCSoft began hiring developers to work on the title, listed as Project H in the job openings. Sought to comment, the company said that it is difficult to confirm information about projects still in development that have not been announced.

Guerrilla Games is the Sony studio behind 2017’s Horizon Zero Dawn and its sequel released this year, Horizon Forbidden West. There are also plans to expand the game’s universe into multiplayer, according to rumors.

Previously, leaks indicated that a co-op was planned for the first game, but it was scrapped so the development team could focus on other areas of the game.

Sony would also have thought about including a co-op in Forbideen West, but Guerrilla preferred to save the news for a future project, which could be an online derivative or Horizon 3 itself.

Last year, Guerrilla Games began hiring for a new online game, but it was unclear whether that game would be in the Horizon franchise. Among the vacancies announced was a social system designer who was supposed to keep players engaged in interactions to create guilds and groups to explore the map together.
