solana saga, the controversial "blockchain" smartphone arrives on april 13th

It hasn’t been talked about since last summer but apparently there are developments on the rumored smartphone Solana Saga and they are of those with an official flavor, given that a tweet from the manufacturing company reveals the actual launch date. We will know more from the next April 13th at 7pm in our time zonewhen we will finally be able to see this new model live.

The tweet doesn’t say much more than reported, but integrates an image with the date and two smartphones in the background, accompanied by the message “Become Legendary” Here it is to follow in its entirety.

Let’s try to reconstruct what we know about this product that not everyone will remember. Initially a smartphone produced by OSOM should have debuted from the ashes of Essential, that of PH-1 to be clear. It should have been called OSOM OV1, at least until the news dating back to June last year, when it was surprisingly declared that it would have been necessary to wait further time first, and that the smartphone would have arrived on the markets with another name, Solana Saga. Solana is the producer while Saga is the actual name, but that’s not all.

The latest rumors claimed that this particular model would be blockchain-centric, much like HTC’s Exodus series. Why this choice? We could say almost physiological if we consider that Solana is a blockchain platform that also offers the homonymous cryptocurrency, the SOL.

That said, a few details and images were shared last year, while also stating that it would be about a smartphone with top-of-the-range specifications. For the occasion, a pre-order phase was also opened with a refundable fee. Here it is in the first images dating back to last year.

For now we have to stick to what has been said in the past, namely that Solana Saga will mount a 6.67″ display, will most likely rely on a Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chip, it will have 12GB of RAM and 512GB of internal storage. Few details on the cameras, practically those visible in the photos, which in fact show a module similar to the one proposed by OSOM OV1. If there were no changes to that effect, then we could be looking at one dual rear camera with Sony sensors (48 + 12 MP) and a 16 MP Sony sensor front camera.

Before the breakthrough and the name change, it was said that the smartphone would be made with a steel body and Gorilla Glass display protection, while the back would be ceramic. There was also talk of 3 distinct versions by color, support for two physical SIMs and the presence of UWB connectivity, but at this point things could have changed drastically.

The price? We don’t know, but several times there was talk of an amount not exceeding 1,000 dollars. Who knows if the times will still allow the price to be kept low. For now it is impossible to say, but we will certainly talk about it again on April 13th.
