Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 vs A16 Bionic: vivo X90 Pro Plus outperforms iPhone 14 Pro Max in benchmark test

Qualcomm’s most advanced chip, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 has just made its debut in the high-end cell phone market, allowing its first benchmark tests outside the labs to be done in the hands of users. This Thursday (22), the golden reviewer released new scores obtained by the platform.

Using the 3DMark Wild Life stress test, the enthusiast revealed the benchmark data of the vivo X90 Pro Plus, equipped with Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, and compared the impressive results of the hardware with the score of the iPhone 14 Pro Max, equipped with the Apple’s A16 Bionic, which ate dust in tests🇧🇷 Check it out below.

The Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 achieved a maximum score of 3757 in the 3DMark Wild Life stress test, which indicates 12% higher performance than the A16 Bionic, which reached only 3,354 points. The scenario becomes even more negative for Apple when observing that the maximum score of the iPhone 14 Pro Max is lower than the worst score obtained by the vivo X90 Pro Plus.

The Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 showed incredible consistency throughout the test steps which, according to the golden reviewer, lasted 20 minutes. Qualcomm’s platform showed 90.2% stability, while Apple’s hardware had only 70%.

The 3DMark Wild Life Stress Test tries to reflect the performance of a mobile phone in games, as it uses continuous, variable and GPU-heavy workloads. Similar results were released by Xiaomi in order to promote the launch of Xiaomi 13 and Xiaomi 13 Pro, which are also powered by Snapdragon 8 Gen 2.

Thanks to TSMC?

The Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 brings a major change from its predecessor: it is manufactured using the 4-nanometer process by TSMC, a rival foundry company to Samsung. It is speculated that problems in the South Korean production technology caused the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 fame to be “hot”.

With fully renewed production, the new chipset should be used by several top-of-the-line phones from 2023, such as the Samsung Galaxy S23 and Huawei P60. This means that Apple’s competition is even more prepared to compete with the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Ultra, which are expected to be launched with the A17 Bionic processor.
