Snapchat launched Family Center in 2022 with the aim of enable greater parental control over their child’s accounts. And the space continues to gain new features, such as the tool that puts a filter and limits the type of content that minors can see in the application.

It is now also possible to follow the list of contacts and check which user the child interacts with the most. However, it is not possible to view the content of conversations, guaranteeing user privacy. If parents suspect something, it is possible to report it to the central.

In addition to setting boundaries for topics, parents can also block content creators who produce videos that are considered to be sensitive or topics harmful to young people, in the opinion of legal guardians.

Snap’s policies are designed to prevent “uncontrolled content from going viral,” so it’s more difficult for certain content that was shared heavily on TikTok or other social networks to be widely shared on Snapchat.

The app also moderates audience-facing content from creators and Snapchatters before it’s eligible for reach in Stories or Spotlight.

Parents interested in accessing the Family Center must have an account set up with their child’s account. Among other features, parents will be able to have more visibility and control over the use of My AI, the app’s chatbot, by their children.
