Imagine the situation. A van full of Amazon packages approaches a residential area, and at that moment small robots emerge from the vehicle, loading the corresponding packages from each house.

The robot has sensors and cameras to identify possible problems, and the van is in charge of analyzing the scenario to send each robot on the optimal path.

That is the idea of the new Amazon patent, a patent in which flying drones do not appear dropping packages on portals and small robots circulating on the ground to their destination.

It is a patent, not a prototype or an actual product proposal, but it shows what Amazon’s goal is in this regard.

Logically there are many doubts on the subject, since most of the people do not live in individual houses with a portal and a fence. These robots do not know how to climb stairs, or call a goal or go up in the elevator (for now), so it seems that the patent only wants to protect an idea before it is captured by another.

We’re still a long way from seeing autonomous vans launching packaged drones and robots, but the future is shaping up on ideas and patents like this one. Hopefully the jobs lost to these ideas can be recovered with robot maintenance and other new areas that will appear as these technologies are implemented.
