During 2022 Samsung gave a setback to the Galaxy S FE series, canceling the development of the long-awaited S22 FE which therefore made S21 FE (here our review) the latest exponent of this range. However, it seems that things are destined to change, according both to what has emerged in the past from the rumors that suggested a temporary block of the series, and from the latest rumors arriving from South Korea, more precisely from the magazine Hankookiaccording to which the time has come to give new life to the FE range: Galaxy S23 FE will be made and will arrive during the year.
The details regarding the specifications of the S23 FE are not yet many, but it seems that also in this case the Exynos variant is avoidedthen Samsung should equip the smartphone with the latest Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 or, in worse of cases, with Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1, perhaps in order to create a minimum of distinction between the latest top of the range and the FE series, all without renouncing high-level performance.
A QUESTION OF LINEUP
It is therefore not clear which chip will be present, but what is being suggested by Hankooki is that S23 FE will replace the Galaxy A74, a device that already since last December seemed to be destined to never come to light. According to what emerged, the A74 would be a problematic smartphone due to its overlapping positioning with some of the exponents of the Galaxy S range, which is why Samsung may have decided to cut it out of the game and leave its space available to Galaxy S23 FE.
Although the latter also has all the potential to annoy the Galaxy S, especially the basic S23, the solution could be to launch it at an advanced stage of the life cycle of the current top of the range – as also happened with the other Lite/FE -, in order to speak to a different audience than the one that pays more attention to immediate access to the latest technologies. Besides that, let’s remember that the FE series has never offered a photographic sector in line with the Galaxy Stherefore also in this respect it is probable that a certain distinction will continue to be maintained.
Choosing to cut out Galaxy A74 could mainly concern the time to market of the Galaxy A series, which is usually launched a short distance from the Galaxy S series of the reference year, so the eventual A74 would have been too close to the S23 and would certainly have affected sales. In fact, for some time now, Samsung has been trying to streamline its lineup again, avoiding that models that are too similar to each other can cannibalize themselves on important price ranges. We have seen how the Note series has been sacrificed in favor of the Galaxy S – incorporating all its functions on the Ultra model – so it is not surprising that the Seoul house is also taking measures on the other side of the series.
SAMSUNG AIMS TO REPEAT THE SUCCESS OF THE GALAXY S20 FE
For the launch of Galaxy S23 FE it will therefore be necessary to wait for the second half of the year and the rumors reported by Hankooki suggest that this time Samsung could bring your smartphone to more markets than ever before.
The hope is to be able to repeat the excellent sales performance of the Galaxy S20 FE perhaps the best exponent of the range: reached altitude 10 million units soldS20 FE performed much better than S21 FE (still at altitude 3 million). It must be said that S21 FE arrived too late on the market, going too close to the launch window of the Galaxy S22 which had already captured the attention of the general public. A launch at the end of summer will probably be the most focused and in focus, but we will have to wait a few more months to confirm this.
