Samsung is first in 7 of the 15 major smartphone markets in a tough Q1 22

As already highlighted by the reports published in recent weeks, global smartphone shipments fell significantly during the first quarter of the year with a -16% year on year generated by a volume of 391 million units.

The unfavorable economic conditions due to a widespread increase in inflation, supply problems associated with the shortage of components and a physiological slowdown after the holiday period must surely weigh on the sector, to which the conflict between Russia and Ukraine and the various interruptions on the assembly processes in many countries that are still fighting the pandemic.

According to the research firm Strategy Analytics, the top 5 producers in the world – Samsung, Apple, Xiaomi, Oppo and vivo – were responsible in the first quarter of 2022 for shipments of nearly 6 out of 10 phones and the 15 countries monitored by the report accounted for 60% of total global shipments.

Samsung was the top manufacturer in seven of these countries, including Italy. Apple has instead excelled in six countries including Germany, France and the United States. Despite all the problems, Xiaomi still held a good third position in several countries and is increasing its market share in Latin America.

Relative to Italy, where the general decline amounted to 4%, Samsung got almost 40% of the market followed by Apple, Xiaomi, realme, OPPO, Motorola, TCL and vivo. During the second quarter, according to Strategy Analytics, the situation should continue to have a negative trend.
