The Galaxy S23 Ultra proved to be the best phone in terms of battery life in the TechSmart review, proving that it is capable of easily beating the iPhone 14 Pro Max. This Monday (13), DxOMark published its own test with Samsung’s top-of-the-line cell phone, reiterating its leadership in the category among flagships.

It is worth remembering that the French site evaluates not only the autonomy, but also the performance and efficiency of the device’s energy cell discharge. Considering all aspects, the Galaxy S23 Ultra scored 142 points in battery rankingbeating the iPhone 14 Pro Max (133 points) and ASUS ROG Phone 6 (140 points).

The evaluators point out that, in moderate use (4 hours of activity per day), the autonomy of the cell phone can reach 67 hours (2 days and 19 hours). In more intense use (7 hours of activity per day), the battery impressed by lasting about 42 hours (1 day and 18 hours).

The use case in which the cell phone has the best download performance is when watching videos, using social networks and making voice calls. Interestingly, other tasks can consume more energy than expected, such as using the camera and listening to music.

In addition to its excellent autonomy, one of the factors that contributed to the Galaxy S23 Ultra surpassing the Galaxy S22 Ultra with a great advantage of 40 points is faster charging. Small evolutions in the level of its circuits made the new cell phone reduce the time needed to recharge the battery in about 3 minutes.

The Galaxy S23 Ultra takes 37 minutes to charge from 0% to 80%, 27 minutes to charge from 80% to 100% (according to the system indicator) and 18 minutes to reach its maximum capacity (according to DxOMark electronic analysis). In total, the process takes 1 hour and 22 minutes to complete. iPhone 14 Pro Max takes more than 2 hours.

Of course we are talking about different types of chargers. The Galaxy S23 Ultra supports up to 45 watts of recharge power in its battery, while its rival is limited to 25 watts. The South Korean gets an extra 5 hours and 23 minutes of autonomy with just 5 minutes in the socket.

DxOMark points out that one of the faults of the cell phone is yours low unloading efficiency. Despite having a large 5,000 mAh unit, the relationship between its autonomy and capacity are not compatible, indicating that the Galaxy S23 Ultra does not have good optimization through hardware and software to make the most of the battery.

In contrast, if the iPhone 14 Pro’s only 3,200 mAh battery — leader in terms of efficiency in the ranking — had a battery with the same 5,000 mAh capacity as the Galaxy S23 Ultra, its autonomy would be much higher due to optimization.

A detail raised by the tests indicates that charging the Galaxy S23 Ultra via a USB-C cable is a more efficient and economical idea than using Samsung’s wireless charging base. DxOMark warns that the accessory may have a large residual consumption, increasing the electricity bill and making the cell phone take longer to charge.
