A further clue emerged on the Samsung’s alleged top-of-the-range mobile SoC for next year, which should be the successor to the Exynos 2200 seen this year on the Galaxy S22. The information is all in all small: the internal codename used by the engineers to identify the project. But it is interesting because it comes from another very reliable and reputable source, which has not yet spoken on the subject, at a stage where the very existence of the chip has been questioned.

Meanwhile, the actual leak: according to Roland Quandt’s WinFuturethe internal project codename is Quadra. For reference, that of Exynos 2200 was Pamir. The day before yesterday we learned from other sources that the chip name should instead be S5E9935, while that of Exynos 2200 is S5E9925. We don’t have a trade name yet, but at this point the most sensible prediction is Exynos 2300.

PREVIOUS EPISODES

A couple of days ago, a South Korean source revealed that Samsung intended to take a couple of years’ break on the top-of-the-line Exynos to focus on designing exclusive chips for Galaxy devices. So no Exynos for (hypothetical names) Galaxy S23 and Galaxy S24. A few hours later, however, details had emerged on at least one of the two chips, precisely the initials of the Exynos 2300, which seemed to disprove this version of the facts. It is important to clarify that there is a possibility that “both rumors are true”: as long as Samsung changed its mind at some point in the process. Quandt himself confirms that the information about him is emerging now, but it comes from several months ago.

Unfortunately, at the moment there are no concrete details on what the chip could be, assuming and not granted that it actually exists. It is easy to assume that it will use the next generation 3 nm GAA process (Gate All-Around), which is expected to become operational in late 2022, and that there will again be an Xclipse GPU based on the latest Radeons.
