The Galaxy A23 5G is one of several models in Samsung’s popular “A” line of mid-range cell phones, and despite the solid sales volume of the series, this model seems to have faced major problems at the factories of the South Korean company which, according to a report of The Elecreduced the production of this device drastically.

According to Asian media, Samsung expected to sell 12.6 million units of the Galaxy A23 5G, but its sales expectation is now only 4 million units until the end of the year — that is, about 70% less than the initial projection. There is still hope that the Galaxy A23 4G will sell around 17 million units.

Industry sources claim that Samsung faced production hurdles with a specific feature on the Galaxy A23 5G, which caused “serious problems with the operation of the device”. The unspecified setback took a long time to have its root identified, and although it was resolved, the company opted to cut production.

Apparently, a problem in the cell phone’s engineering caused part of its components, such as the camera, to perform below expectations.

Although Samsung’s investigations pointed out that the cause was not due to Sunny Optical, the supplier of the Galaxy A23 5G lenses, the company claims that its partners should have “reacted more quickly” to the setbacks.

Samsung expects to sell around 5 million units of the Galaxy A23 5G in 2023. The forecast is cautious, since the company is working on launching a new generation of mid-range cell phones, including the Galaxy A24 4G, which will supposedly be equipped with the same Exynos 7904 processor as the Galaxy M20.
