Samsung is one of the most advanced companies in the world in terms of panel manufacturing it means. The company is a leader in OLED panels for mobile phones, while in the television segment it offers the best QLED panels with Quantum Dot. Now, the company has taken an important step in the advancement of OLED technology.

This was announced today by Samsung, which claims that it is already mass-manufacturing the new generation of OLED panels called Eco²OLED. The first device to make use of this screen is the Galaxy Z Fold3, but many more are going to benefit from this technological improvement.

Eco²OLED: this is the new OLED revolution

The Eco²OLED panels They represent a great innovation thanks to the fact that they do not use the classic polarizer between the panel and the screen glass. The color of current OLED panels has a yellowish tone, and to create blacks, polarization layers are used that prevent light from entering and reflecting on the panel, allowing only the light generated by the panel to show through and pass through the crystal.

The problem with using that polarization layer is that the amount of light that passes through the glass panel is reduced. If we see a glass panel of a Samsung mobile, we will see that yellowish tone generated by the polarization layer.

33% more brightness, or 25% less consumption

That will be a thing of the past, since Samsung has begun to mass-manufacture new panels that do not require the use of this polarization layer thanks to non-reflective OLED panels. Thanks to this, the thickness of the panel is reduced and the transmission capacity of the light generated is increased by 33%. That translates into a 33% higher brightness, or, in turn, a 25% less energy consumption at the same level of brightness as in the past.

That implies a huge leap in this type of panel, and is in fact the biggest leap in terms of efficiency and brightness that has occurred since the creation of these panels. This also has positive effects on the durability of the panels, as they can be used at a lower gloss level.

It is not yet known which devices will be the next to use these panels. It is likely that the iPhone 13 does not integrate it because Samsung has just started mass manufacture them, and iPhones have already entered production this summer. Therefore, the next series of Samsung Galaxy S22 may be the ideal candidate to equip these panels in the highest-end model that Samsung announces.
