Sometimes the integrated microphone array of Apple’s current computer clocks goes on strike. Error messages occur – Siri and dictation are hampered.

In various forums such as Apple’s, there are currently reports of error messages in connection with the microphone built into the Apple Watch Series 8 and Apple Watch Ultra. Various functions that use the integrated recording array of the two computer watches then simply fail – including Siri voice recognition, but also measuring the ambient volume, the dictation function or recognizing the length of hand washing, which the watch tracks if desired.

When this happens, the computer clock spits out the error “Measurement Suspended” – including a crossed out microphone icon and a note that the microphone cannot be used at the moment. An example is the Noise app, which says you can’t measure the ambient noise when the water lock is on or the speaker or microphone is in use in another application. The problem: That was simply not the case with the affected users.

The problem seems to occur only sporadically, it has not yet occurred with an Apple Watch Ultra in the Mac & i editorial team. According to a report by MacRumors, it is currently missing still on a fix. The only possible workaround is that Shut down the clock and restart it recommended – but this interrupts the flow of use and also takes quite a while.

So far, it has been assumed that the error is more of a software problem than defective hardware. Nevertheless, the first users have had their watch exchanged in an Apple store. The Noise app could be the actual trigger – in most cases, the error message popped up when it was activated. The problem is that turning off the microphone affects all device usage – all features that need to access the microphone are disabled.
