Qualcomm recently presented its new Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chip, the dedicated chip for the best Android flagships that has high performance and certain specifications at the highest level. Now the chip manufacturer has announced the Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 , with the difference that it will be one of the protagonists of mid-range Android phones.

As with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, Qualcomm continues with the intention of integrating AI into the same SoC so that some of its processes can be carried out  on-device , or in other words, that the calculations are done from the device hardware to not depend on the data connection for certain functions such as generating images with artificial intelligence.

In fact, every aspect of this chip looks like it was designed with artificial intelligence in mind. Which means that for artificial intelligence tasks the new Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 should perform perfectly and thus motivate the use of this type of AI functions that are increasingly seen in the different platforms and services of the technological giants.

Focused on AI

Qualcomm has shown the power of this chip with the benchmark dedicated to the generation of Stable Diffusion images from text input in just one second . Now, apart from the AI, this chip offers great performance for a mid-range chip. It is characterized by a peak speed of 2.63 Ghz on the CPU, a 50% increase in GPU performance compared to previous versions and with great energy efficiency to offer great autonomy in the mobile phones on which it is mounted.

Going a little more into the technical aspects of the chip, it seems that it could be the successor to the Snapdragon 7+ Gen 2 or the Snapdragon 7s Gen 2, but it really falls between the two. Designed in 4nm, it is characterized by a 1 + 3 + 4 core structure. The Kyro CPU has a main core at a clock speed of 2.63 Ghz, three remaining at 2.4 Ghz and the other four, dedicated to efficiency, at 1.8 Ghz.

The chip manufacturer has made it clear that the new Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 will also offer excellent camera capabilities and has its role in continuing to integrate the 5G connection. Regarding the manufacturers that will introduce this chip in their mobile phones, Qualcomm has announced that Honor and vivo will be the first to mount this chip in their smartphones.

An announcement will be made later this month to show off the first smartphone to use Qualcomm’s new Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 chip . One of the possible candidates may be the new Honor Magic 6 which has the virtue of having  on-device AI .
