We all know that the Pokémon franchise is a success in games, anime, manga and any other product that appears, but in 2019, the saga took its first steps into the live-action universe with the release of Pokémon: Detective Pikachu.

Even though it was a box office success, the feature has not had a sequel confirmed so far, but according to Deadline, director Jonathan Krisel (‘Portlandia’ and ‘Baskets’) is in talks to direct the second film for Legendary Entertainment. .

While many hoped for a more faithful adaptation of the main franchise games when Pokémon finally hit theaters in live-action, The Pokémon Company decided to go the other way and adapt the Detective Pikachu saga, which shows the iconic electric mouse as a capable detective. of speaking like a human and solving crimes.

In the film, a young man joins forces with Detective Pikachu to solve the mystery behind his father’s disappearance. Chasing clues through the streets of Ryme City, the pair soon uncover a devious plot that poses a threat to the Pokémon universe.

Although the first film did not leave a hook for a sequel, where even the actors in the cast did not believe in this possibility, Legendary Entertainment seems to disagree and is ready for a second round.

Chris Galletta (‘The Kings of Summer’) will pen the script for the sequel, which may see Ryan Reynolds return to the cast in some capacity.

Nintendo has invested more and more in adaptations of its franchises in the form of films and series, having even created an internal division to take care of these projects. As we know, an animated Super Mario Bros. is on the way, as is a stop-motion Pokémon animation series on Netflix, as well as a possible live-action Pokémon project on Netflix.
