Pixel 8 Pro: the “multi-camera” function could improve night photos

Pixel 8 Pro could make clear progress in terms of the quality of night shots, according to the latest rumors that emerged from the code of the Google Camera 8.8 which was released in the past few days.

Colleagues from 9to5Google took care of analyzing the app, who found references to a new feature exclusive to Pixel 8 Pro. It is an addition to the already existing one Multi-camera Super Res Zoom, a function that currently allows the Pixel 7 Pro (here our review) to exploit data from other cameras to enrich zoom shots with a greater number of details. According to the analysis, Pixel 8 Pro could also adopt the same system for photos taken with night mode.

This would allow the Pixel 8 Pro to further improve the quality of the images, drawing more information from the other sensors. At present the algorithm mainly uses data from the wide-angle camera in order to complete the information collected by the primary sensor, but it is not clear if the new version will be limited to this or if the camera with telephoto lens will also come into play.

On the other hand, the current function has the purpose of improving the quality of the zoom on all levels that are not covered by the periscope, while the new version is dedicated to night photos, therefore it is plausible that Google may want to apply a similar algorithm to all sensors. Obviously it is still too early to know for sure, which is why we will have to wait for the official presentation to find out.
