Brand movements in the mobile field, and also in others related to technology, are quite common. In recent years, in fact, it has already happened on occasion. As in the case of Xiaomi, which in 2019 decided that its Redmi models would cease to be a subfamily to become a full-fledged brand of its own. Cast is what seems to happen with OnePlus if the filtration that indicates it is correct.

Coming from the Indian medium TheMobileIndian, the information refers to the future of the Nord subfamily that OnePlus inaugurated a couple of generations ago and that, according to what they say, is going from strength to strength in terms of sales. So much so that OnePlus considers spin off the Nords from their catalog and turn them into an independent brand. In other words, we would stop talking, at least officially, about OnePlus Nord to simply know them as Nord.

Nord, a OnePlus brand

According to TheMobileIndian, everything indicates that OnePlus’s growth strategy for its Nord series models, located in the middle range of the market, involves giving them their own identity. That is, for make them an independent brand that can compete face to face, and with the same weapons, as Xiaomi’s Redmi, to name the most popular in the use of this strategy.

This is what has happened to some extent with other brands in the sector, such as OPPO and Realme, although the latter were born directly as a separate entity. Or like Vivo mobiles and iQOOs, which we still don’t know officially in the West. So that, it may not be long before we see how the phones of the Nord family are split from its parent company, OnePlus, to have its own brand with a new logo, website and possibly also its own stores.

Apparently, the bond between the two companies would continue at the brand level because although the Nord would stop being called OnePlus Nord, it would would keep the ‘of OnePlus’ or ‘a brand of OnePlus’ somewhere in the logo. Hopefully this, if eventually executed, will be aimed at publicizing the origins of the brand and will stick around until the Nords are strong enough on their own.

TheMobileIndian sources are even encouraged to comment that the future Nord brand would have the logo in blue, or use blue as an important part in the construction of the logo. It is also expected that the Nord sale strategy will continue as before despite becoming independent. Namely, maintaining both online and physical channels. We’ll see what happens finally.
