one ui 5.1, here are the news announced by samsung

After months of rumors and speculation, the therefore moment for the Galaxy S23 (and for the Galaxy Book3, we must not forget it) has arrived. And as it was said in the past, with them came the first real update to the user interface built on the basis of Android 13, the One UI which goes from version 5.0 to 5.1.

It will arrive on several of the products already on the market but on the Galaxy S23 it is installed at the factory, for which Samsung during the Unpacked event focused on some of the news. Let’s see which ones.

THE NEW ONE UI 5.1 ANNOUNCED BY SAMSUNG

continues the collaboration between Samsung and Google, and on One UI 5.1 it draws new benefits. The app Notes allows you to edit a document with work colleagues or friends during a video call on Google Meet, the S Pen (on Galaxy that support it) can be used “in select Google apps” like Chrome or YouTube.

Integration that also improves between the different devices of the ecosystem. The peripherals (integrated such as the trackpad or external) of a Galaxy Book can also be used on a Galaxy smartphone, so the keyboard, mouse, etc. are also useful for smartphones with One UI 5.1. And you can copy a file from your PC to your smartphone or drag one or more images from one to another with the mouse.

On One UI 5.1 the Expert RAW app – which for the uninitiated is used to photograph in RAW, a format that is made up of uncompressed, therefore unprocessed, image data acquired by the camera sensors – is integrated into the Camera app. It is currently only available on some top-of-the-range models, including the Galaxy S23. With Auto Share the captured photo is automatically shared with the PC.

Yes they can select up to 15 photos and videos to sew on the lock screen. Samsung proudly said that each component of the lockscreen can be customized. Here comes the chance to quickly create a sticker starting with a photo, then can be overlaid on an existing widget on the home screen.

For the home screen comes the widget Smart Suggestions which recommends apps and actions. It’s smart: for example, it recommends calling back someone who had tried to contact us previously or a Spotify playlist that we usually listen to when wearing earphones. Remember the widget Smart collection of iOS.

It debuts there Maintenance Mode, which in Italian could be assistance mode. By activating it before handing over the smartphone to the repair centres, the display of personal data is prevented. Thus access to messages, gallery, files and even downloaded apps is barred, which is very useful for example to prevent someone from opening the bank app: it allows you to no longer format your smartphone when you hand it over to the support. It is then deactivated via PIN or the authentication method that you prefer most among those proposed.

New for Modes and Routines with the Theater Mode which together with the SmartThings home automation app allows you to have your smartphone and home environment ready to watch something on TV with just one touch.

WHEN AND ON WHICH PRODUCTS IT WILL ARRIVE

These, as mentioned at the beginning, are just some of the what’s new in One UI 5.1 compared to the previous version, i.e. those that Samsung showed in the final stages of yesterday’s event. They are not all. For the more impatient we leave the complete register of news that ended up on the web a few days thanks to a reliable source, highlighting those (above) that are already official. As soon as we have the complete official log we will update this article.

Note: some of the innovations mentioned in the previous paragraph may not appear in the One UI 5.1 changelog (below) because they are exclusive to the Galaxy S23 or other devices. The above are news extrapolated from yesterday’s presentation, and unfortunately until Samsung makes the interface revision official we won’t know exactly who will receive what.

Already, when will we have the full log? When Samsung will detail the One UI 5.1 or the first updates on the Galaxy will arrive, a difficult moment to place in time. In fact, yesterday the company limited itself to saying that will be available soon, without even giving information on the smartphones that will receive it. Something has filtered from previous rumors, but we await official indications.
