The NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4080 could benefit from faster memory than previously announced. The consumption of the graphics card should not reach the very high levels that had leaked previously.

As the formalization of the first NVIDIA GeForce graphics cards from the RTX 4000 family approaches, the leaks are more precise as to the technical specifications that can be expected from this new generation of GPUs. The leaker kopite7kimivery active and generous in information on the next graphics cards of the Greens, offers us new information on the highly anticipated RTX 4080.

According to him, it would have 16 GB of 23 Gbps GDDR6X memory. This is good news since previous reports pointed to GDDR6X memory at 21 Gbps. This gain should help make the RTX 4080 perform even better than expected. The supported bandwidth would reach 736 GB / s, since it is a 256-bit bus that is expected on the RTX 4080.

Faster memory, but less consumption: what about performance?

Another important element shared by the source, the overall consumption of the graphics card. The GeForce RTX 4080 would have a TBP (Total Board Power) of 340W. This can be taken as a relief, as an old report stated that to harness its full power, the RTX 4080 would need 420W, which is starting to do a lot for the power bill. This also confirms what we were told kopite7kimi a few days ago: NVIDIA to reduce the consumption of its graphics cards. But some may also worry that this drop in consumption is induced by a reduction in the power of the graphics card.

For the rest, the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4080 would be based on a TSMC engraving in 5nm and would rely on the presence of 9728 CUDA cores. A power slightly lower than 50 TFLOPS is mentioned, but this figure should be taken with a grain of salt, especially since the development of the graphics card does not yet seem to be fully finalized. The RTX 4080 is expected to launch in the fall, October or November, a few weeks after the RTX 4090.
