Apple plans to release its new systems in stages this year. Work on iOS 16 is reportedly over.

Apple is planning a different release order for its new operating systems this year. The usual principle that in September, with the release of the iPhone, iPadOS, watchOS and tvOS will be released in addition to the updated iOS, is set to change this year.

It has been known since the beginning of the month that iPadOS 16 – apparently due to problems with the implementation of the new Stage Manager function – will not be released until October. Accordingly, only iOS 16 and watchOS 9 will be presented in September, possibly also tvOS 16. A month later, iPadOS 16 and macOS 13 alias Ventura would follow. Apple appears to be coordinating all of this along with hardware dates, Bloomberg journalist Mark Gurman believes.

his Weekend newsletter According to Apple, with an early release date for the iPhone 14 and Apple Watch Series 8, there is enough room to come onto the market with new iPads and new M2 Macs in October. Apple liked to work with this tier before the pandemic: iPhones and Apple Watch in September, Macs and iPads in October. The release of iPadOS 16 also fits in here.

With iOS 16, Apple already seems to be very far advanced. According to Gurman, the company’s engineers “have the job completed this past week”. Accordingly, the availability of a release candidate version is likely to be pending soon. Apple is currently testing Developer Beta 6 with its developers, which also corresponds to a public beta.

Users expect numerous innovations from the new operating systems, as can be read in the latest issue of Mac & i. Apple has completely revised the lock screen of the iPhone, offers the new window mode Stage Manager on the iPad (with M1 chip) and also improves numerous apps in macOS 13 aka Ventura. iMessage can now withdraw and edit messages, there is a new cloud sharing option for photos and the Home app for HomeKit gets a completely new look.
