Netflix is working on an iPhone being used to control games on TV, says rumor

Netflix would be working on a new feature that should allow you to use an Apple iPhone to control games on TV. The resource would be one more way to try to leverage the platform’s games sector. There is no information about the application on Android.

According to an article published on Bloomberg, some lines of code present in the latest version of the application dedicated to iOS confirm this rumor. However, it is still unknown when the company can officially launch this feature.

The Netflix app for the iOS operating system apparently contains code that says, “A game on your TV needs a controller to play. Do you want to use this cell phone as a game controller?”. The platform declined to comment.

It is worth remembering that Netflix launched its mobile gaming service at the end of 2021 and said earlier this month that it has launched 55 games so far, with another 40 titles scheduled to come out later this year on mobile platforms.

However, these games can only be played on iOS and Android devices and are not available on screens like TVs or laptops. Using your phone as a controller would be a way for Netflix to get around the need to release a dedicated accessory.

The streaming service also said this month that work on a cloud gaming service is “under way” after the company first announced it was “serious exploring” the project in 2022. We can only wait.
