It seems that Microsoft was working on a Mid-range Surface Duo and that he has it deleted: in recent days a mysterious “Dev Unit” of the device appeared on eBay with an absolutely familiar form factor, but a plastic body instead of metal as we have seen in the model regularly on sale. The photos uploaded to the ad, which has now been deleted, also briefly show the device turned on and with an operating system (Android of course) loaded, so it is assumed that it is reasonably functional.

The news emerges only now because the colleagues of Windows Central, speaking with their internal sources, they were able to confirm that the ad was indeed authentic and that the project was being carried out, at least for a while. Apparently the internal codename was Cronos, and was canceled at the end of 2021; the team decided it was best to focus on the next-generation flagship model, which is expected to be released around the end of 2023.

Not much is known about the specifics of this … “Surface Duo Go”? It could be a plausible name given the history of the brand. The advert simply says that the internal memory is 128 GB, and it doesn’t even say that it is completely reliable; it is clear that to be shown on the components must be all for good or bad, but not even Windows Central has been able to provide more precise details on chips, cameras, displays or more.

At this point it is not entirely clear whether the smartphone has been sold or if the ad has been withdrawn. In the first hypothesis it is possible that soon the buyer will decide to share some more details, but for now we can not help but take note and wait for developments.
