Microsoft has officially confirmed that it is working on a device that at the moment receives the code name Keystone and whose purpose is to provide video game streaming on the television. With this, the user could enjoy the video games of the Xbox ecosystem without having to have this video console.

Keystone will allow access to video games in the Cloud through a monitor or a television without the need for a game console

The device, similar to Google’s Chromecast or Amazon’s Fire TV that, through the HDMI port, connects to a television and allows access to online applications and platforms. Keystone will be part of both Xbox Cloud Gaming and Xbox Game Passrespectively Microsoft’s cloud platform for gaming and its subscription service.

Microsoft’s strategy with a device like the Keystone abounds in reinforcing the use of these aforementioned platforms, facilitating access to them for those who cannot or do not want to acquire an Xbox, but at the same time it also works as a complement for those who do have one. . And it is that this type of device, very similar in appearance and size to a flash drive, although physically not so compact, are ideal for mobility precisely because of the little space they occupy and because they are capable of transforming any monitor or television (through the HDMI port to which they connect) in the entertainment and gaming center provided by a console.

With the added advantage that on a trip it will not be necessary to transport the entire console but it is reduced dongle and the controller or controllers to play. A perfect solution for the most gamers who on trips and trips want to continue their games, but without the hassle of having to carry consoles that take up more and more space.

From Microsoft they do not offer more information about the possible launch date (although apparently they would have been working on the development of this device for several years) or about the definitive name, since it must be remembered that Keystone (translated as “Keystone”, also called voussoir in architecture, the central stone in an arch that supports the entire structure) is a provisional code name that would not necessarily correspond to the final trade name.

Video games in streaming are consolidated as one of the big bets of entertainment platforms, as evidenced by initiatives such as this one from Microsoft or the growth of the video game “channel” offered by Netflix through its app for mobile devices.
