Microsoft launched this Monday (27) an important update for the Teams platform improving the performance and stability of the application. The recent update also brings several other new features to the company’s video calling service, including a renewed interface with intuitive elements and more flexibility in use.
On its website, the developer claims that the “reinvented” version was created considering community feedback, valuing four central pillars for the program to work: speed, performance, flexibility and intelligence, with more performance (up to 2x) and memory consumption reduced by half.
The company claims that these improvements are the “base for new experiences powered by Artificial Intelligence (AI)” reinforcing that it should continue using this tool in its main services. Last week Microsoft 365 apps received integration with Copilot, a new AI that helps the user generate Word documents, slides and more
In the case of Teams, it’s still unclear how artificial intelligence is supposed to benefit the employees, students, and others who use the service; press release cites teamwork optimization and chat improvements.
After all, what’s new?
- Faster – Through collaboration with the independent benchmarking company GigaOm, it was possible to quantify gains in terms of performance, with emphasis on opening the application and meetings, now twice as fast and using less memory;
- Simpler – Incorporation of improvements in the core experience of Teams will make it easier to maintain your notifications, search for information, manage messages and organize channels;
- more flexible – Improved authentication model, synchronization, and notification systems to provide a consistent and seamless experience. For example, many customers need to collaborate with people outside their organization, which sometimes means having multiple Teams channels. Instead of logging in and out every time you have to respond to a request, you can now stay connected, regardless of the channel and profile you are using.
- More intelligent – The new Teams will be the foundation for the next generation of AI experiences, including those previously announced, such as Intelligent Recap and Copilot. AI will streamline teamwork, sharing recaps of past meetings or chat conversations.
