If you were looking to make some plans in the next few days which involved sunbathing or doing anything outside – you might have to rearrange.

Met Eireann is forecasting a fairly bleak next few couple of days with high temperatures and sun being replaced by rain and lots of it.

Highs of 18C on Friday and Saturday will drop suddenly over the weekend and into next week before making a return by mid-week.

Today will be dry and sunny though with temperatures reaching the high teens before dropping to 7C overnight.

It will remain dry with a mix of cloud and clear spells as mist patches form throughout the country.

Nearby, Severe Weather Europe is forecasting that some frightening storms are set to make their way over to some of our neighbours but will probably just miss Ireland and the UK.

They said: “Severe storms are likely to develop across western and southwestern Europe within the warm sector and unstable air mass ahead of the Atlantic front. Organised storms, including supercell storms with large hail, severe winds, and also some tornado threats are possible.”

Here’s how the next few days are looking according to Met Eireann:

Monday: “Further showers or longer spells of rain continuing on Monday however, drier and brighter conditions will develop through the afternoon. Remaining cool with highest temperatures of just 14 to 16 degrees in moderate northerly winds.”

Tuesday: “Sunny spells with some scattered showers in the east, and the best of the drier conditions in the west. Highest temperatures ranging 15 to 17 degrees as light northerly winds back westerly.

Further outlook: “Remaining unsettled for the remainder of the week with showers or longer spells of rain at times and temperature near average or slightly below.”
